Zdzislaw "Joe" Kawejsza, 81, of Port Charlotte, formerly of Norwalk, CT passed away Monday, February 1, 2016. Born April 15, 1934 in Poland, he was the son of Piotre and Ludwica. At the age of 28, Joe came to the United States with $11.00 in his pocket. He worked hard to build a new life, becoming the manager of the welding department at Bolt Technology in Norwalk, where he worked for many years. In 1990 he moved to Florida and became the Owner/President of Basia's Food Mart in Port Charlotte. Joe loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends and enjoyed playing all sports. Even in his later years, Joe was a force to be reckoned with when playing cornhole in the backyard. He will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor, honesty, hard work, his competitive spirit, and generosity. On several occasions, Joe opened his home to many of his family members from Poland when they wanted to come here to Live the America Dream, just as he did. He will be greatly missed by his children, Bogdan (Donna) Kawejsza, Diane (Stephen) Kurtessis, Lee (David) VanDeusen and Barbara (Robert Heffley) Kawejsza; sisters Wladjia and Carolka; grandchildren, Ryan, Krissi, Stephen, Rachel and Shealyn and great-grandson, Trevor. He was proceeded in death by his sisters Janinia and Sophia; brothers Jan and Mietek; and his beloved wife Alina, with whom he joyfully celebrated their "Golden Anniversary" in Connecticut with many friends and family in October, 2014. The family will receive friends 3:00 to 5:00 pm Friday, February 5, 2016 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday 6, 2016 at San Pedro Catholic Church, North Port.
