Wyatt E Mcdaniel

Wyatt Evans McDaniel (Mac) of Naples, FL passed away to eternal life on July 21, 2018. He was born (and raised on a farm) in Amesville, Ohio to the late Nelle (Evans) and Wyatt D. McDaniel. Wyatt was an industry pioneer in radio and TV broadcast engineering. He built his first crystal radio in 6th grade which developed his lifelong passion for everything broadcasting. His true love was HAM radio and his call letters W8HTD were well known with other ham operators around the world. As a weather aficionado, he loved to find out hands on about international weather conditions. Wyatt was also a licensed private pilot and enjoyed the pleasure of "getting away from it all" up in the skies. He received his degree in Radio Technology from Valparaiso Technical Institute. He began his career as a radio transmitter operator in Springfield, Ohio and for a time as a radio DJ at WHIO, Dayton. He transitioned to TV broadcasting as the Chief Engineer at WTOL-TV, Toledo, Ohio. He launched their first live color newscast. Wyatt continued his career as Chief Engineer at WJAR-TV, Outlet Communications, in Providence, RI. He was instrumental in building the station's state-of-the-art Broadcast House and while there he engineered the NBC Sports world wide live feed for the America's Cup Races in Newport, RI. He was later promoted to Outlet Communications Corporate Manager of Facilities Development and directed the engineering renovations at TV stations in Columbus, OH and Atlanta GA. On June, 27, 1953, Wyatt married Helen J. Golbinec (RN) of Toledo, Ohio. After raising four children and retiring in 1989, Wyatt and Helen moved from Rhode Island to Punta Gorda Isles, FL. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling the world, volunteering in church and community activities while spending time with their children and grandchildren. Wyatt volunteered his expertise in amateur radio and broadcasting to assist the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services with the installation of the area's repeater to ensure that communications for emergency teams could be maintained in times of severe weather. When Hurricane Charlie devastated Charlotte County in 2004, Wyatt was among a team of ham radio operators who facilitated the exclusive means of communication for authorities. Pre-deceased by his beloved Helen, Wyatt is survived by his sister Pauline. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, all of whom he was exceptionally proud. Daughters: Mara (John) Wolski, Jana Stahl, Sarah (Marcel) Sander; Son: Evan (Carolyn); Grandchildren: Drew and Alex Wolski; Chase, Victoria and Luke Stahl; Joshua and Jacob Sander and Ella McDaniel. Wyatt will be laid to rest along with Helen in the family cemetery in Amesville, Ohio...73, roger over and out.
