Wordal A. Rankine

Wordal A. Rankine, 82, of Punta Gorda passed away August 1, 2010. He was the son of Thomas and Catherine Rankine, born March 17, 1928 in East End, Grand Cayman, BWI. Wordal began his career of service, as a member of the Cayman Islands Home Guard. Upon completion, he became a Merchant Marine at the age of 17. Wordal attained to the highest rank of Captain and served as a Master Seaman until retiring in 2001 after an illustrious 56-year career. A proud American citizen since the 1950's, he was a member of the American Legion and Masters, Mates and Pilots Organization and MITAGS. Locally, he attended the First United Methodist Church of Port Charlotte. Wordal has always remained connected to his Caymanian roots. As an active member of the island community, he was very proud of his West Indian heritage. Wordal will always be remembered as a loving family man, that did anything for those that he loved. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 27 years, Anne; children, Debra (Mark) and Sean; brothers and sisters, Claire, Alfonso (Leonie), Cardiff (Lydia), Gurney (Betty) and Nell; grandchildren, Adam, Erik, and Amber and many extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Friday, August 6, 2010 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. A funeral service and burial will be in Grand Cayman, BWI.
