William "Ron" George

February 12, 1943 — May 4, 2018

William R. Ron George, 75 of Port Charlotte, FL passed away May 4th 2018. He was the son of William and Harriet George, born February 12, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA. Ron proudly served as an Army Medic for 15 years and was a Purple Heart recipient; 10 of those years were overseas and included two tours in Vietnam. One of his proudest moments while serving in Germany was delivering a baby in an ambulance. Ron moved to Charlotte County in 1976 from Miami FL. He retired after working 31 years as an LPN at Peace River Regional Hospital (formerly St. Joseph). Ron was a die-hard Miami Dolphin and Miami Hurricanes fan, and one of his best memories was in 1960 when he played football in the Orange Bowl and sacked the quarterback. He took immense pride and joy in spending time with his many nieces and nephews. Other than time spent with family, his favorite pass time was going out to Boca Grande Beach. Ron was also a proud resident of the Douglas T. Jacobson Veterans home for the past 7 years. He will be greatly missed by his sister, Sharon Cleveland; and all of his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert and sister, Nancy Phelps. A Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on May 10th at 11:00am with burial to follow at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Douglas Jacobson Residents Fund, Attn: Chester Bullock, P.O. Box 20729, Bradenton, FL 34203.
