William R. Lucchesi, Sr.

November 13, 1925 — October 25, 2015

William "Bill" R. Lucchesi, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully Monday, October 26, 2015 in Port Charlotte, FL. He was born November 13, 1925 in Danbury, CT, the eldest son of Angelo and Ercolina Lucchesi. Bill graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1943. Soon after, he served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Greene, Radioman Third Class, honorably discharged May 1946. He was recalled for Korea and honorably discharged in November 1951. Bill played football for the Top Hat Bull Dogs as a linebacker and running back in the early 1950's. He was also an avid duckpin bowler at Hatters Park in Danbury. He met his wife, Marion Egan at an American Legion Hall dance in Danbury in 1956 and married her May 1, 1957 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, New York. They raised a loving family and enjoyed themselves most when hosting family and friends at their homes in Connecticut and Florida. Bill retired from Barrett Roofing in 1988 when he and Marion moved to Port Charlotte, FL. Not one to sit idle, he continued to work as a landscaper and roofer until 2011, when he finally decided to take a break. He is survived by his children, Karen Lucchesi, Donna Carhuff and William R. Lucchesi, Jr.; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; brother, John A. Lucchesi; sister in law, Dorothy Russell and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Marion B. Lucchesi. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3pm, Monday, November 2, 2015 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services with a celebration of Bill's life to follow at 3pm. Inurnment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery at later date. All who knew him will remember him with a smile. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
