William Lawrence Cain

February 23, 1919 — February 19, 2006

“Gracefully lifted by God’s hands and taken home to rest” William Lawrence “Larry” Cain, 86, of Port Charlotte passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006. He was born February 23, 1919 in Mocksville, NC to the late Reese and Ella (Eaton) Cain. He worked as an operating engineer in Connecticut for more than 40 years. Larry lived in Hartford and Hebron, Ct before retiring to Port Charlotte. He was a member of Gideon’s, International Union of Operating Engineers, IUOE Retirees Club of Fort Myers, FL, Charlotte County Jazz Society, First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte and a Past Master of Tuscan Lodge #17 Prince Hall Masons. He loved cruises, was an avid fisherman and had a passion for the earth, and watching things grow and birds fly. Larry’s care and nurture extended to those he loved and cherished whether near or far and his wisdom will be missed by many. Larry will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years and soul mate, Edith Archer Cain; daughters Elizabeth Loretta Cain Jones of Rocky Hill, CT and Dolores Cain Weld of El Cajon, CA; son Sherman Cain of Wethersfield, CT; brother Frank Cain of Graham, NC; sisters Louella Harrison of Pfafftown, NC, Coleen Darden of Winston Salem, NC, Fleeta Hudson and Jewel Cain both of Bridgeport, CT; a very special niece Alyce Littmon-Teal of Windsor, CT; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends including his best friend and confidant Willie Wright. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wesley Cain, Douglas Cain, Vance Cain and a sister Ruth Carr. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3:00 - 5:00pm at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Service, Punta Gorda Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 or First Baptist Church of Pt. Charlotte, 20035 Quesada Ave., Pt Charlotte, FL 33952.
