William J. Martellaro

November 4, 1964 — April 20, 2019

William J. Martellaro, 1964-2019 Bill Martellaro, 54, died April 20, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. His beloved wife, Christine Tierno Martellaro, was by his side. Bill was born in Scranton, Pa., the fourth son of the late Angelo P. Martellaro and Anne Kelley Martellaro. He graduated from Bishop OHara High School and earned a bachelors degree from East Stroudsburg State University and an MBA from Marywood University. Bill spent most of his life in the Scranton-Dunmore-Throop area; he and Christine moved to Port Charlotte, Florida, in 2017. He spent much of his career in automotive-related fields, including work as an account sales manager for ADP of Roseland, New Jersey; Regional Sales Manager for Net Driven of Scranton, Pennsylvania; Regional Sales for Hitachi Capital of Norwalk, Connecticut; and Zone Business Consultant for the Affinity Development Group of San Diego, California. Bill was proud of his membership in Theta Chi fraternity and the Scranton St. Patricks Day Parade Committee. He was a devout Catholic who loved God, country and family. Because of the depth of his faith, Bill truly looked forward to the next life. But he also truly embraced this one. He squeezed earthly life like a grape from a great vintage, and wrung from it every drop of joy and wonder that it has to offer. With his beloved Christine by his side, Bill traveled the world. He toured France, and Italy, and sat on a beach on Bali. He ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Bill packed so much into life. He built a solid professional career, but never mistook material success for the true meaning of life. He extensively remodeled two houses with his own hands. He grew fruits and vegetables and herbs, made wine, cooked like a trained chef. He reveled in his Irish and Italian heritage, and dove deeply into his family history. And if there was a party, you could be sure that Bill would be the life of it. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Christine; brothers Jerry of Dunmore, Joseph (Valerie) of Harrisburg and John (Karen) of Lenexa, Kansas; parents-in-law Paul and Suzanne Tierno of Castle Creek, New York: sister in law-Amy (Jeff) Leivonen of Newberry, Florida; brother in law-Paul (Claudine) Tierno of Binghamton, New York; nephews Michael Martellaro of Harrisburg and Robert Martellaro of Shawnee, Kansas, Anthony Leivonen of Newberry FL; and nieces, Casciana and McKenzi Tierno of Binghamton, NY; Angela Martellaro of Kansas City, Kansas and Adriana Leivonen of Newberry FL . Bills family offers our thanks to all who reached out to offer Bill comfort and prayers during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank in Punta Gorda. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 25, 2019 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Port Charlotte. Burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial.
