William A. Kopp

William A. "Bill" Kopp, 86, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away December 18, 2016. He was born March 24, 1930 in Columbus, OH to Albert and Reva Kopp. Bill graduated from Bexley High School, Class of 1948. He attended Capital University and Ohio State University. He served in the US Marines. Bill retired from Trans Ohio Bank, formally Dollar Savings Bank in 1993. Bill also worked at North American Aviation and was elected State Rep for Ohio in 1972, where he served 2 terms. As a State Rep he was successful in helping to start the DO Medical College and James Cancer Clinic at OSU. He moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 1994. Bill joined Eastern Kiwanis in 1965; served as Treasurer of the Ohio Kiwanis District, where he was still a member and a dual member by belonging to the Punta Gorda Kiwanis and Port Charlotte Kiwanis. He was the Chaplain of American Legion Post 110, Life member and Chaplain of VFW Post #5690, Chaplain of the Southwest Navy League, FL, member and Chaplain Marines Corps Post #756, member of Port Charlotte Golf Course, formally Punta Gorda, DCSC Golf Course, Columbus, OH, Elks #2605, Punta Gorda, Deep Creek Elks #2763, 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus#12456, San Antonio Catholic Church, where he was an usher, Life member Charity Newsies, Columbus, OH, member of 4 S Club, Columbus, Ohio and past Secretary and Chaplain for the "CCVC" in Port Charlotte, FL. Bill will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 33 years, Linda; step-children, Jackie (Clay) Cook of Laurenburg, NC, Jon (Jessica) Roe of Milford Circle, OH; grandchildren, Brian, Amber, Brandon, Benjamin and Damain; great-granddaughter, Madison; brothers, Robert (Ann) Westerville, OH and James (Neva) of Pickerington, OH; several nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret "Mickey"; parents; sister, Betty Jean Herzig and brother, Delbert Kopp. A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 11am, Friday, December 23, 2016 at American Legion Post 110, Port Charlotte, FL. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Columbus, OH. In lieu of flowers may be made to Kiwanis or American Legion. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
