Willard R. Barnes, 89, of Huntington County passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 in Port Charlotte, FL after a brief illness. He was born April 26, 1923 to Agnes (Fransler) and Raymond Barnes. Willard served in the US Navy during WWII and was a teacher, coach, and principal in the Huntington County area. One of his best memories was coaching the 1952-1953 Monument City basketball team. He was a member of the Banquo Christian Church, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Rotary Club. Willard is survived by his son, Monte Barnes of North Port, FL; daughter, Lou Ann Brown Rawlins of Cedar Park, TX; brothers, James (Carolyn) Barnes of Huntington and George (Rosie) Barnes of La Fontaine; sister, Rosemary (Bill) Walton of Goshen; six grandsons and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Wanda "Lynn" ; sister, Alice Marie Cross and his cherished granddaughter, Sara. A memorial service will be held 3:00pm, Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Banquo Christian Church, 8924 South 900 W35, LaFontaine, Indiana 46940. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Banquo Christian Church. Inurnment will be at Monument City Memorial Cemetery.
