Willard H. "Bill" Hughes

Willard H. Bill Hughes, 95, of Punta Gorda passed away Friday, March 1, 2019. He was the son of David H. and Ada Jane Hughes, born August 27, 1923 in Youngstown, OH. Bill came to Punta Gorda from there in August 2013. He served with the Merchant Marine Corp. Bill retired after 40 years of service with Metropolitan Life Insurance, where he earned many awards. A man to be involved in his community, Bill attended many Bible studies, served faithfully in his church and in leadership in Ohio. He was a member of the Youngstown Shrine Club and for years he drove children to the Shrine Hospital for Children. He served as secretary in both the Shrine Club and the Canfield Community Club. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and continued to do so until he was 89-years-old. Bill will be remembered as a man of faith whose greatest joy was spending time with his family. Bill will be greatly missed by his daughter, Laine (Tom) Garber; sons, Ray (Jan) Hughes and Kevin (Terri) Hughes; 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 67 years, Elaine; son, Leigh; and brothers, David and Donald. The family will receive friends 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, with the service in celebration of Bills life beginning at 4:00 p.m. To express condolences to the family, please sign the online guest book.
