Walter F. Kowal

Walter F. Kowal, Sr., 84, of Punta Gorda and Pine Island, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. He was the son of John and Bessie Kowal, born June 13, 1927 in Pine Island, NY. Walter worked alongside his wife, Julia, on their onion farm in New York and was a world traveler during summers and winters, before retiring. An active member of his farming community; he was a lifelong volunteer of the Pulaski Fire Dept., a member of the Elks, a member of the Orange County Vegetable Improvement Association, and the Farm Bureau. Walter was preceded by his wife, Julia C. Kowal and his parents. He leaves behind his four children: Linda Madura, Walter Kowal, Jr., Russell Kowal, and Julia Pickles, in addition to their families and his grandchildren, and his sister, Jennie Grozonka. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 20, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Punta Gorda. The family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice in his name.
