Walter C. Evans

Col. Walter C. Evans (USA, Ret.), 81, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015. He was the son of Clifford and Harriet Evans, born March 14, 1934 in Cedarhurst, NY. Walter's 30 year military career he had tours of duty in Frances, Germany, the States and two tours in Vietnam, He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit and the Legion of Merit 1st OLC. He was member of United Methodist Church, Italian American Club and life member of Kiwanis Punta Gorda International, where he was a recipient of the Kiwanis Hixon award. Walter was an avid bowler on two leagues. He liked being behind the scenes and enjoyed serving and helping others, and he touched many lives in many different ways. Walter will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret; sons, Richard Evans and Bill (Laura) Evans; granddaughter, Andrea Evans; brother, George (Audrey) Evans; numerous nephews, nieces and one great niece. A celebration of Walter's life will be held at 10:30am, Friday, July 10, 2015 at United Methodist Church, 507 W. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda, FL.
