Virginia Rose Halliday, 95, passed away peacefully at her daughters home in Venice, FL on Sunday, February 27, 2011. She was born to Charles Edward and Anna Rose Johnston on May 13, 1915 in Antrim, OH. Virginia was married to her beloved husband, Samuel Earl Halliday for 70 years until his passing in January of 2005. They lived in Michigan, most recently in Port Huron, and have wintered in Punta Gorda since 1995. Virginia will always be remembered for her kindness and caring, loving attention to others, as well as her devotion to her family and friends. She was of a sharp mind with a wonderful memory. She has been a great source for details about the past, and a great resource for answers to crossword puzzles and word definitions. Over the years, Virginia has enjoyed many activities, hobbies and pastimes. She always loved to read and travel. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, square dancing, knitting and crochet, and was an accomplished seamstress and basket-maker. She belonged to many groups in the past such as Extension Clubs and Church Women's Groups. Virginia was devoted to her husband, Earl, and they always lived on a lake. The grandchildren loved to visit, and sometimes even went on trips with them. She spent much time with her grandchildren reading, playing, and even teaching most of them to dive off a raft. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Carol Prince of Venice, FL and Gayle (Fred) Rosa of Punta Gorda, FL; brothers, Warren (June) Johnston of Marble Falls, TX and Bob (Betty) Johnston of Murrells Inlet, SC; sister Marjorie (Emerson) Mack of Spencerville, OH; sister in laws, Margaret Denison of MI and Lillian Halliday of OH; grandchildren, Donna (Chris) Lamkin of Plymouth, MI, Janet (Jim) Iwanski of Troy, MI, Sandy (Fred) Hopper of Holly, MI, Ken (Margaret) Prince of Ypsilanti, MI, Ron Prince of Farmington Hills, MI, Lynn (Jon) Reynolds of Saline, MI, Bonnie Burchell of Albuquerque, NY, Chris (Susan) Halliday of Howell, MI, Cameron Aspenwall of White Lake, MI and Tenille Aspenwall of Boulder, CO; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
