Veronica Louise Zavalney, age 92, passed away on October 30, 2024.

She was born in Tabor, MN, and grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Mount St. Benedict Academy in 1950 and from the Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Grand Forks, ND, in 1953. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota, earning a bachelor’s degree and later a master’s degree in Nursing Education.

She served four years in the Army Nurse Corps, attaining the rank of Captain. 

Veronica worked for many years in public health and later taught Public Health and Mental Health Nursing courses.

She and Ervin Zavalney were married in 1962. During Ervin’s career with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the family lived in several states. They retired to Punta Gorda, FL, in 2003 to live closer to their son, Steven.

Veronica loved her family and is survived by her son, Steven; brother Ben and sister Mary Ann; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

There will be a Memorial Mass at a later date. Arrangements are by Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda.
