Vernon H. Russell, 97 yrs young, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away peacefully Aug. 8, 2017 surrounded by his wife and family after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Leicester, MA on July 25, 1920. He served in the US Navy and worked as an electrical engineer in radio broadcasting for many years until retiring from the Harris Corporation. Vernon and his wife Phyllis retired to Venice, Florida where he enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and singing in the local chorale. Vernon moved to Port Charlotte in 2013. He was known for his happy, kind personality, his beautiful voice and wonderful smile. Vernon leaves his wife, Phyllis of 35 years; sons, Bruce (Pam) of Harrisburg, PA and Brad of Roanoke, VA: stepchildren, Susan (Clancy-Bowne) of Guilford, VT., Carol (Thomas) Fabian of Port Charlotte, Nancy (Mark) Bouvier of North Brookfield, MA., Edward Watters of Westwood, NJ and Timothy (Kathy) Watters of Portland, OR; 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Inurnment will be at a later date in Sarasota National Cemetery. A memorial bench in Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, NH will be placed in loving memory. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tidwell Hospice of Florida or to the charity of their choice. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral Cremation
