Tommie Lou Johnson

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tommie Lou Johnson, who departed this life on April 7, 2025, at the age of 84, at her residence in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Tommie was born on December 23, 1940, and she dedicated her life to her family and her career in education. She was the beloved wife of James W. Johnson for 61 cherished years. Together, they nurtured a loving family, which includes their four devoted children: Pam Rhett (Randy), Angie Goeke (Jim), Christie Keyser (Jeff), and James Johnson (Karen). Tommie was also a proud grandmother of nine: Jordan Rhett (Dre), Benjamin Rhett, Claudia Rhett, Natalie Williamson, Nick Goeke, Kayla Keyser, Christopher Keyser, Andy Johnson, and Clara Johnson. She delighted in her role as a great-grandmother to two, Thomas Rhett and Joanna Rhett.

Professionally, Tommie was an exceptional educator, who touched the lives of countless students over more than 20 years of service as a teacher of special education and business courses at the middle and high school levels. Her dedication to her students and her passion for teaching left a lasting impact on her community.

A celebration to honor Tommie Lou Johnson will be held at Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda, on April 25, 2025, beginning with a gathering of her family and friends at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 with a reception to follow from 12:00-2:00 pm. All who knew and loved Tommie are welcome to join her family in remembrance of a remarkable woman who will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, a cause close to Tommie's heart.

Tommie Lou Johnson's spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
