Thomas Hyland Armstrong, 82, of Punta Gorda died on October 12, 2005. He was born March 24, 1923 in Decatur, Illinois. Tom served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Educated at Hotchkiss Preparatory School in CT and at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, he graduated in 1944 with an M.B.A. He was an owner of a variety of businesses, farming interests and investments. As an avid circus fan he was a charter member of CFA-Byrd Tent. Tom and Eleanor have sponsored circuses in Jacksonville, IL and at the Isles Yacht Club for their friend’s enjoyment and charitable benefits. Tom was an active member of the Isles Yacht Club in Punta Gorda. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Holmes Armstrong; daughters Meredith (Fred) Stahl, Jeanne (Gunther) Eichler and Christine (Robert Eb) Spink; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A informal celebration of Tom’s life will be at 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 23 at the Isles Yacht Club in Punta Gorda.
