Thomas C. Young, 76, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 with his wife and his sister in law at his side from complications due to surgery. He was born March 28th, 1939 in Tewksbury MA to Thomas and Margaret Young. Tom moved from Pelham, NH to Punta Gorda in 2011. Tom and his wife had been coming to Punta Gorda for the last 11 years in their motor coach. In 2011 they permanently settled in Alligator Park. Tom served his country in the US. Army and was a member of the Punta Gorda Elks Club. He married Judith Young in 1960. Tom worked for the JG MacLellan concrete company of Lowell, MA for 35 years, starting as a union truck driver. For his last twelve years with the company he was the Plant Dispatcher. Tom enjoyed his "Diesel pusher" motor coach immensely. He and his wife traveled whenever possible to numerous locations throughout the U.S. He also enjoyed his cruises to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal. He also loved to collect antiques with his recent purchase of a Chrysler Prowler. He had a passion for fixing anything and enjoyed working on his homes. Tom was known for his quick wit and keen sense of humor. Over the years, he especially enjoyed "teasing" the young and old in his life. The stories of his birthday and Florida albino pigeons are just two of the infamous stories that he'll be remembered for. Tom's friends and their families played an important part in his life. Having no children of his own, Tom found pleasure in being involved with the children of neighbors, family and friends. He will fondly be remembered as Uncle Tom. He is survived by his loving wife, of 54 years, Judith Young, his brothers Arthur and Kenneth and sisters, Mildred and Katherine, devoted sister in law, Linda. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, George, Robert, John and Joseph and sisters Marjorie and Anne. Tom's special dog Lassie of 15 years will be waiting for him to bring his vanilla ice cream cone. Tom enjoyed his last years, socializing in his golf cart, having his Miller Lite beer, tending to his lawn and plants and attentive to the "Honey Do" list. I love you Tom and give Lassie a big hug from me. His wife wishes to thank doctors Brian Ardel, Dr. Dominick Galliano, Dr. Vance Wright Browne and their staff, the many doctors ICU nurses at Bayfront Port Charlotte (formally Peace River) the nurses and staff at the Acute Wound and Care Facility in Sarasota, Florida who treated Tom with expert care, kindness and devotion during his past three months. A Mass and celebration of Tom's life will be held in November in Punta Gorda, FL Memorial donations may be made in loving memory of Tom to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Make A Wish Foundation.
