Thelma E Whidden

Thelma Earnistine “Nana” Whidden was the daughter of Frank and Kizzie (Browning) Davis, born September 11, 1927 in Clewiston, Florida. She was raised in Punta Gorda, Florida and lived for a time in Arcadia, Florida after she married Robert Whidden in September of 1952. She returned to Punta Gorda over 50 years ago and planted deep roots in the community. Thelma was a homemaker whose greatest joy was caring for and spending time with her family. Known to many as Nana, Thelma loved children and they loved her; she kept kids for many families through the years. She loved the Lord and was an active member of Church of God of Prophecy, serving as a Sunday School teacher and with the Pastor Boosters and Missionary Boosters. Thelma was a friend to all who knew her and will be remembered for her kindness. Thelma passed into the presence of the Lord on May 18, 2010 at the age of 82. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Elizabeth (Joe) Tancer of Punta Gorda; sons, David (Kelly) Whidden of Port Charlotte and Frank (Nancy)Whidden of Sebring, FL; sister, Fannie Renfroe Culvard of Winter Garden, FL; sisters-in-law, Vivian Davis and Peggy Long; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Whidden. Nana’s Celebration will be at 10:00 am Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Church of God of Prophecy in Punta Gorda. Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of Church of God of Prophecy, 662 Cooper Street, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
