Terence D. Chidsey

August 10, 1964 — May 22, 2022

Terence David Chidsey of Punta Gorda, Florida went home to Jesus on May 22, 2022. He passed away peacefully in his home after an ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) diagnosis in January 2020. He did not allow ALS to define him. Terry accepted this debilitating illness with a grace that can only be explained by his love for and dependence on God.

Terry was born on August 10, 1964, in Medina, Ohio to David and Rita Chidsey. Terry graduated with a BS in Accounting and worked for General Electric for 20 years, then finished his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers before retiring in July 2021. Terry was a member of Deep Creek Community Church and enjoyed being social and talking with people. He was passionate about sports, especially basketball, and eventually went from playing “pick up” games to refereeing high school basketball. Terry was particularly fond of Ohio State Football. OH – IO! While Terry was not a runner, as “Team Chidsey” Terry found great joy in being “Team Dad” and mentoring runners while supporting Julie as coach of the Desoto County High School Cross Country team.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, David Allan Chidsey.

Terry is survived by his wife, Julie Chidsey; mother, Rita Chidsey; son Joshua Chidsey (fiancé Saizone Terrell), step-children Jacob Bernier, Kyle Shirley, Brittany Mancilla, Anna Mattingly; granddaughter, Morgan Fleming; brother Darryl Chidsey (wife Cindy), and nephew Matthew Chidsey.

A Celebration of Life for Terry will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Deep Creek Community Church, 1500 Cooper Street, Punta Gorda, FL to be followed by a celebration luncheon in the Chidsey home where Terry and Julie lived their beautiful life together with their children, loved on each other, and celebrated all kinds of events with family and friends. It is Julie’s desire to fill their home with love and memories of those who knew this incredible man that she was blessed to call her husband.

In lieu of flowers, it is Terry’s desire that donations be made to ALS research at the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida under the direction of Dr. Bjorn Oskarsson. https://philanthropy.mayoclinic.org/donateMC Click amount, designate gift to “other”, in “other designation” write ALS Clinic at Mayo Clinic Florida, under the direction of Dr. Bjorn Oskarrson, then check “make this donation a tribute” and fill out the rest.

Final arrangements were entrusted to Johnson and Taylor Funeral home, Punta Gorda, Florida.
