Stephen K. Fogg

Stephen K. Fogg, Esq., 70, of North Port, FL and formerly of Dover, MA, passed away on May 6, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. Stephen was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to the late Stephen Brown Fogg, Jr. and Mary Frances Hensely Fogg. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Fogg. Stephen is survived by his daughter, Corinne Moore Fogg, of Kensington, MD.  He is also survived by his granddaughter, Marigold Frances Fogg; his siblings, Patricia Anne Maki (John) of Farmington, ME and James William Russel Fogg of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and his nephew, Stephen John Maki (Michelle). 

Growing up in Amesbury, MA, Stephen attended Saint James High School in Haverhill, MA, and was certified as an Eagle Scout in 1965. He matriculated at Boston College, earning a B.A. in 1972, Magna Cum Laude. He was awarded his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1975 and began his career as an Associate with Calfee, Halter & Griswold in Cleveland, OH. He spent a year working as Assistant Counsel for Wheelabrator-Frye Inc. in Hampton, NH, and then accepted an Associate position at Warner & Stackpole in Boston, MA, where he later became Senior Attorney and Partner in SEC. He was a Partner at Choate, Hall & Stewart in Boston for many years, where he was Chairman of the Business Development Committee and Chairman of the Corporate Department. He also served as Partner at McDermott, Will & Emery in Boston, where he led the corporate team and was involved in the largest disposition of corporate entities in the history of the firm. Stephen was also a Partner with Day, Berry & Howard (now DayPitney), Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell (now Locke Lord), and Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough. He was a founding member and Chair for Business Counsel, Inc., a not-for-profit organization of law firms throughout the world. 

Throughout his life, Stephen took great pride in his civic passions, serving as Chairman of the Capital Drive for St. Joseph’s Parish in Lincoln, MA; Chairman of the Boston College Law School Annual Fund and Member of the Board of Overseers; and Trustee with Catholic Charities Foundation in the Archdiocese of Boston. He was deeply committed to the mission and vision of Boston College, to the scholarship of Boston College Law School, and to the charism of the Society of Jesus. A lifelong student of history, avid gardener, and keen golfer, Stephen served as the unofficial historian at Brae Burn Country Club. As a long-standing member, Stephen was Chairman of the Historic, later Heritage, Committee for many years. When not on the course, Stephen combined his passions reviewing Brae Burn’s archives to unearth history to share with members and friends. His goal was not just to relay the Club’s history; it was to assure the Club’s legacy would continue to grow well into the future. A faithful Catholic, Stephen lived the ideals ignited in him by the Jesuits. Throughout his career, he remained actively involved in his parish and sought to live as a man for others. 

Most significantly, Stephen was an unconditionally devoted father to his daughter, Corinne. In the wake of Stephen’s passing, friends and family are reminded of his sense of humor, his strength of character, and his zeal for the practice of law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13th at the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, ChestnutHill, MA. Private burial will follow.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boston College or Massachusetts General Hospital.
