Stephen J. Tooker, 40, of Carrollton, GA and formerly of Charlotte County, passed away January 16, 2006. He was born May 1, 1965 in Angola, IN. Steve came to Charlotte County from Angola as a child and considered Punta Gorda his home. Steve was a machinist for Red Mills All Engine Brake & Machine in Punta Gorda. The family moved to Carrollton, GA after Hurricane Charley damaged their home. He was a member of First Christian Church in Port Charlotte. Steve was very active in the community and was well known as the founder and leader of the T-n-T Band. Steve was a member of the Charlotte County Country Music Club, as well as the Moose Club #2121 and the Eagles Club. Steve was an avid sports fan and played on a variety of teams. Steve loved children and later coached various ball teams for the YMCA. Steve will be greatly missed by his wife, Kelly Tooker of Carrollton; daughter, Patty Tooker of Carrollton; mother, Virginia Tooker of Punta Gorda; brothers, Scott (Tracy) Tooker of Gilbert, SC and Stuart Tooker of Punta Gorda; nieces, Amanda Tooker of Gilbert, SC and Samantha Tooker of Punta Gorda; and nephews, Andrew Tooker of Gilbert, SC and Zachary Tooker of Punta Gorda. Steve was preceeded in death by his father, Wayne Tooker and his grandparents, George and Doris Redner. The service in celebration of Steve’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21 at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Dale Roberts officiating. The family requests memorial donations be made towards Patty Tooker’s future educational expenses; donations may be dropped of at the offices of The Charlotte Sun, or at the funeral home.
