Shirley Mae Bushey, 88, of Port Charlotte, FL formerly of Esko, MN passed away February 25, 2016. Born May 14, 1927 in Moose Lake, MN, she was the only child of Newell and Marie Anderson. Shirley was a 1949 graduate of St. Cloud State University in St Cloud MN and taught music and kindergarten in the Duluth, Esko and Cloquet school districts in Minnesota. She loved teaching kindergarten and positively influenced many lives over the course of her 34 year teaching career. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet MN and of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, FL, where she served on the garden committee and the banner ministry. Shirley enjoyed being active in Alpha Delta Kappa, the international honorary organization of women educators and would have celebrated her golden anniversary with ADK in April. She served in many leadership capacities in ADK over the years and made many life-long friends. Shirley will be greatly missed by her daughter, Denise (Alf) Kirkeeng; son Steve (Pam) Bushey; grandchildren, Amy (Brandon) Parrish and Jack Bushey and great-grandson, Nelson Parrish. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Don Bushey. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 18, 2016 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2565 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, with internment at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota FL at a later date.
