Shirley Betty Merritt

Shirley Betty Merritt, 81, of Punta Gorda passed away Sunday, September 11, 2011. She was born December 21, 1929 in Fishkill, NY to Sidney and Beatrice (Knapp) Loftus. After her husband, Bob retired in 1985 the couple wintered in Florida and summered in Pennsylvania until moving permanently to Florida in 1997. Shirley was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and going shelling on Sanibel Island. She loved to bake for her family and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Shirley will be greatly missed by her daughter, Sharon Davidson of Punta Gorda; son, Alan (Jody) Merritt of Jacksonville, FL; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
