Sandra 'Carole' McCalister 67, born to Carrell Burke and Maribel Buchanan Jackson on November 20, 1942 in Thomasville, AL went to be with our Lord on November 16th, 2010. Carole moved to Port Charlotte in 1975 and made many friends in the community, most notably through her work at the Clerk's Office working for both Buddy Alexander and Barbara T Scott, her years at the Herald Tribune and later the Charlotte Sun in her roles as Feature Writer, Feature Editor, Beat Reporter and City Editor; her most cherished years teaching Creative Writing at the Cultural Center and finally her generous service at the Salvation Army as Social Services Director. She leaving behind her beloved husband of 49 years 11 months, Mike; brothers, William L (Cheryl) Jackson of Huntsville, AL and Terry Jackson of Houston, TX; sister, Paula Saucier of Huntsville, AL; daughters, Carole (Joe) Branca of Gainesville, FL and Sandie (Pete) Uhlir of North Port, FL; grandchildren, Channell Hernandez, Angela Branca, Miranda Burlison, Justin Hernandez, Crissy Bass and Antonio Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Angel and Iziaah Gonzales and Calynne and Abagaile Bass, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 3:00 pm with a service to celebrate Carole's life at 3:00 pm, Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
