Rudolph H."Rudy" Meyn, 80, of Port Charlotte died peacefully at TideWell Hospice in Port Charlotte, on August 1, 2011 after ending his battle with cancer. Having emigrated from Germany as a young man, Rudy settled in Long Island, NY, made the move south to Naples in 1978, then after meeting Michel, his loving wife of six years, he moved to Port Charlotte in 2005. Rudy, a veteran of the U.S. Army, enjoyed people and throughout his decades in the delicatessen business in New York and Naples, he made wonderful friends. In recent years, he loved discovering new parts of the world through his travels with Michel, spending time on his boat, and singing in his church choir. Truly loved by many, his warmth and ready smile will be missed by all who knew him. Rudy leaves behind his wife, Michel; two children, Michael Meyn and Carinne Meyn Barker; grandson, Christopher Meyn; sister Etta Lebensold; as well as Michel's children, Shirley Thornton, JoAnna Durso, Dianne Norquist, Marianne Durso, Joe Durso, and Frances Vogelheim. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rudy's name to TideWell Hospice House, 1144 Veronica St, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
