Roger Leighley

Roger Leighley, 81, of Venice, FL, formerly of Navarre and North Canton, OH passed away peacefully in his home with his family on April 11, 2015. He graduated from Navarre High School and attended Wilmington College. Roger held the position of Vice-President at Canton Finance, where he worked for 29 years and then served as manager of the Home Equity Loan Department at BankOne in Akron, OH. After retiring from Bank One in 2000, he and his wife Betty moved to Venice, FL, where he enjoyed his retirement working as a men's locker room attendant at the Oaks Country Club in Osprey, FL. Roger had a lifelong commitment to public service including serving as a member of the Navarre Village Council, past president of the Navarre Kiwanis Club and past president of the Fairless School District Board of Education and was an active member of the Fairless Athletic Booster Club. He and his wife Betty enjoyed golfing and Roger treasured his many fishing trips to Canada with his brother, Donnie and friend Bob McAfee. After arriving in Venice, he enjoyed collecting sharks teeth, fishing with new friends and listening to music at Snook Haven. He was a gallant warrior during his last 55 days, maintaining his sense of humor and thoughtfulness for others. He was deeply loved by friends and family, who will miss his gentle sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; son, Jeffrey Leighley of Venice, FL; daughter Dr Jan. Leighley; son-in-law, Rick Johnson; granddaughter, Anna Johnson of Silver Springs, MD; sisters, Dorothy Hostetler of Navarre, OH and Margaret Davis of Macon, GA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Leighley and sister, Mabel Hammer. A private service will be held.
