Steve Blackwell, 58, of Harbour Heights passed away September 4, 2006. He was born April 18, 1948 in Lebanon, IN, the son of Robert E. and Bette (Fulwider) Blackwell. Steve moved to Punta Gorda from Indiana in 1972. He was proud to be an English teacher, wrestling coach and, later, a media specialist at Charlotte High School for over 34 years. A musician most of his life, Steve became a passionate singer and songwriter and formed the folk group Steve Blackwell & Friends to share his love of local characters, Florida and family through music. Peace Creek Revival was a smaller band that played Southern Gospel music at local churches throughout the area. Sharing stories and songs with family and friends was special joy to Steve. Steve will be greatly missed by his wife, Margie (Sue);parents, Bob and Bette Blackwell; sisters, Becky Stewart and Melodie Staley; children, Phebe Westby , Japhy Blackwell and Carrie Hussey; 6 grandchildren; and many, many friends. The service in celebration of Steve’s life will be 2 pm Saturday, September 9 at Port Charlotte Untied Methodist Church.
