Robert Thomas "Bob" Smugala, 71, of Punta Gorda (and previously of Naples, FL) passed away March 14, 2019. He was the son of Thomas L. and Catherine Smugala, born June 30, 1947 in St. Louis, MO. Bob served in the US Army in Vietnam (1967-68). Afterwards, Bob was a shoe last (molded pattern) designer and worked for Florsheim Shoes and Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis. More recently, he worked for Sony in Ft. Myers as a computer tech. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed cooking, watching hockey and following the St. Louis Cardinals. Bob's greatest joy was fishing with his wife, son and nephew. He was of the Catholic faith. Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 491/2 years, Linda; son, Thomas; sister, Kathy Franke; sister-in-law, Diana Sonderman; nieces, Karen Bailey and Susan Dooley; nephews, Gregory McDaniel, Mark Franke, and Matthew Franke; and many other great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. The service in celebration of Bob's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery.
