Robert (Bob) John Andrews MD, 89, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of Clarence W. and Eleanor (nee Kline) Andrews. Bob married Martha "Joan" Williams in 1950, and they moved to North Miami, FL in 1952. "Dr. Bob" practiced internal medicine for 20 years and was one of the founders of the not-for-profit North Shore Hospital in Miami, FL in 1953. In 1972, Bob and family moved to Punta Gorda, FL and opened a private medical practice where he worked until 1991. Later, he reviewed medical cases through a Medicare Utilization and Quality Control Peer Review Organization Program: Analysis and Recommendations, covering the West Coast of Florida. Dr. Bob declared himself the #1 Miami Dolphins fan and followed them avidly since his days in Miami. Always community minded, he was the founder and an active member of the Punta Gorda Historical Mural Society; one of the founders and a member of Peace River Antique Automobile Car Club of America; past board member and volunteer for Operation Cooper Street's after-school mentor program and established the bicycle incentive program; was a long-time, active member of the Kiwanis Club of Punta Gorda; and an active member of The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Punta Gorda. In 2001, he received the Service Above Self Award from the Rotary Club of Punta Gorda. Dr. Bob will be greatly missed by his daughters, Jane Smith of St. Petersburg, FL, Mary Jo Andrews of Frankfort, KY, Judy Waldrop of Punta Gorda, FL, and Sally (Curtis) Long of Inverness, FL; son, Daniel Andrews of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and grandsons, Wesley "Andy" Waldrop, Robert A Waldrop, and Evan H. Long. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha "Joan" Andrews. The Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 W Henry St, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
