Richard H. Bloomquist

Richard Harry Bloomquist of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away on January 10, 2021, after living with Parkinson’s disease for several years. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, JudyBloomquist, his children Jamie Bloomquist, and Karrie Bloomquist, daughter-in-law VictoriaLasbury and grandchildren Mason and Leah Bloomquist, and Harper Coburn of Maine, and his step-children Gannon and Michelle Ulrich, and Jocelyn and Bryan Camarata, and grandchildren Jacob, Henry, Gianni, and Charlie.

Rick grew up in Jamestown, NY., and Naples, FL., raised by his loving parents, Harry and Marguerite Bloomquist, and was proud of the Swedish heritage they celebrated. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1963 and Grove City College in 1967. Rick worked for CorningGlass and Marine Midland Bank in his early career. He was a natural salesman and put his talents to work for the benefit of many a product from cars to business equipment. Rick was also an entrepreneur and experimented in other industries as well; he was never afraid to try his hand at something new and owned The American Incense Company, Southern Tier Abrasivesand R.H. Bloomquist Landscaping.

Rick cherished spending time on Chautauqua Lake and was a lifelong powerboater. Rick’s children recall long and idyllic summers that included “putting” up and down the lake on the boat, visiting friends, and taking in the views. Rick was a member in long-standing of the Chautauqua Lake Power Boat Club, where he served as commodore. He was also an avid downhill skier. He served on the safety patrol at Holiday Valley and was a member of the Ellicottville Ski Club.

Rick and Judy moved to Punta Gorda, Florida in 2001 after fulfilling Rick’s lifelong dream of having driven his boat down the Intracoastal Waterway. There, he became an avid fisherman, an active member of the Punta Gorda Isles Cruising Club, and spent as much time on CharlotteHarbor as possible.

Rick was quick to shake your hand, and share a joke and a laugh, and will be missed by his family, and his many friends, new and old. Those who knew him will remember this one, “Ole died. Boat for sale”.
