Richard C. Mocny

November 21, 1929 — August 11, 2021

Richard C. Mocny (91) of Punta Gorda died peacefully on August 11 at home with the care of hospice and his loving family. 

Richard was born in Cleveland, Ohio attending the local public schools, and played on his high school football and basketball teams.  He graduated from Fenn College in Cleveland, Ohio with a degree in Bachelor of Civil Engineer.  In 1953, he was certified as an Engineer and Surveyor. 

After graduation, he started out working on road construction as a surveyor.  He then started working at Porter and Waco within their scaffolding division.  He transferred to Chicago, Illinois in 1960.  In 1978, Richard began working for Patten Scaffolding in Fort Lee, New Jersey, and retired from there in 1994. 

Richard was happily married to two wonderful deceased wives: 

Shirley Ann (46 years) He is survived by his daughter, Diane Terry of Kinnelon, New Jersey; his sons, David Mocny and his wife Joanne of Flowery Branch, Georgia; and Robert Mocny and his wife Diane of Wake Forest, North Carolina.  Richard leaves three grandchildren, Austin, Justyn, and Ryan Mocny. 

Helena (Nuala) (21 years) He is survived by her daughter Joann Weiner and her husband, Mark T. Weiner of Barrington, Rhode Island; and a son, Patrick A. Costa and his wife, Keri Lee Costa of Attleboro, Massachusetts.  She was preceded in death by her son, Frank V. Costa.  He leaves six grandchildren, Samantha Bonanno, Isabella Costa, Sophia Costa, Benjamin Weiner, Hannah Weiner, and Ashley Nicole Calahan.   

Richard became an avid boater after taking his family to the Lakes of the Ozarks.  The family traveled with the boat to various lakes throughout the Midwest.  When he moved to Florida, he continued his interest and boated up and down the intercoastal waterway. 

Richard also loved to travel with his family and friends throughout the United States, e.g., California, Nevada, Missouri, Kentucky, Wisconsin.  He also loved to take cruises to Europe, the Caribbean, Panama Canal, and Mexico.   

A memorial mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 26 at The Sacred Heart Church in Punta Gorda, Florida.  Family and friends are invited to attend.  A burial service will take place at Restlawn Cemetery in Port Charlotte.  The family asks that in remembrance of Richard, donations be made on his behalf to the American Cancer Society.
