Richard Anthony Hicks, 55, of Sarasota, FL, passed away at the Boy Scout Camp Miles on May 6, 2017. Born May 8, 1961, in Mobile, AL, he grew up in Louisville, KY, and moved to Jacksonville, FL, in 1981. Richard graduated from the University of Florida with a BS in Economics, and received his MBA, with honors, at Rollins College Crummer School of Business. He was the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer of Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida, where he was highly regarded for his witty intelligence, brilliant professionalism, and exceptional graciousness. Richard had an incredible passion for living and the outdoors. He was an active member in his church and community, holding several volunteer positions at Riverview High School, Boy Scout Troop 100, Leadership Sarasota, and Trinity United Methodist Church. Richard volunteered regularly at Salvation Army, Goodwill, All Faiths Food Bank, and Cat Depot. Richard's smile and selfless, inspiring character will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Elizabeth and Rebecca; son, Ryan; sisters, Suzanne, Rosemerry, and Angela, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Virginia Hicks A service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4150 South Shade Ave., Sarasota, FL, 34231. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, Enterprise, FL.
