Raymond W. Dextraze

March 11, 1926 — June 25, 2014

Raymond W. Dextraze, 88, of Port Charlotte, FL passed peacefully Wed., June 25, 2014 into Our Lord's arms while at the Douglas Jacobson Veterans Nursing Home. He was the son of Wilfred & Armenie (Richr), was born March 11, 1926 in Franklin, VT. Raymond resided most of his life in Dayville/Danielson CT. prior to moving to Port Charlotte, FL. in 2003. Raymond proudly served his country during World War II on the U.S Navy Destroyer Escort-U.S.S Melvin R. Nawman and witnessed the raising of the U.S. flag over Iwo Jima. Raymond retired from Lydall Rubber at age 62 and enjoyed life with his beloved wife Irene of 56 years as they traveled the United States in their motor home; cruised to Bermuda; and became avid card players. Raymond crafted beautiful furniture and wooden toys for his family and friends. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Bergeron of Port Charlotte, FL.; son, Ronald Dextraze with Heidi Mathieu of Whitefield, NH.; sisters, Mary Jane Talbot of Barton, VT. and Theresa Smith of Florence, MA.; brother-in-laws, Arthur & Paul Lavigne; and sister-in-law Jeannette Chicoine; four grandchildren Atty. Michael Bergeron, James Bergeron, Monique Dillon, and Myia Carlile; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. Raymond was predeceased by his soul mate of 56 years, Irene (Lavigne); parents Wilfred & Armenie (Richr); sisters Annette Potter, Yvette Poirier, Madeline Lampron; Maryann Dextraze; and brothers Norman, Eli, Leo and Rene. He also leaves a special friend in Port Charlotte, Sylvia Gilbert. Raymond will be missed for his smile, great humor and gentleness to all. Memorial service will be held on July 31, 2014 at Holy Trinity Church in Pomfret, CT. Donations in his memory can be made to Tidewell Hospice, 12034 No. Access Rd.
