Peggy A. Cox

February 3, 1937 — March 11, 2017

Peggy Ann Cox was the daughter of Gurdon and Aeleta Begeal. She married Lawrence Joseph "Skeeter" Doran and they had 3 sons, Joe, Mike and Pat and later she married Royal "Barry" Cox and they had 2 daughters, Pam and Christy. Peggy had a knack for making the best of whatever life handed her. As a working single mother raising three rambunctious boys and two girls, her family lacked nothing essential and benefitted from her ability to care and provide for. Always the optimist, Peggy seldom dwelled on the negative and almost always could find the silver lining on any black cloud. On those rare occasions when it seemed there was no silver lining to be found, she was the best at simply ignoring the black cloud until it passed. Peggy loved life's little adventures and often took her family camping, fishing, or on outings to the beach. She will be remembered as a loving mother who enjoyed spending time with family, friends and quality moments when life's lessons were shared and her optimistic outlook were passed to all those around her. Peggy passed away on March 11, 2017 after a courageous battle against cancer at the age of 80. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Larry Joe (Joann) Doran, Michael Paul (Brenda) Doran and Patrick Andrew (Rose) Doran; daughters, Pamela Cox and Christy Lee Minks; brothers, William (Linda) Begeal and Mark (Mary) Begeal; sister, Sally (Ron) Beard; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal "Barry"; son-in-law, Jeffrey Minks and great-grandson, Donovan Cook. A memorial service to celebrate Peggy's life will be held at 11am, Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 992 Tamiami Trail, Unit C-2, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 or Tidewell Hospice, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
