Paul E. Mathews, 79, of Punta Gorda passed away December 19, 2006. He was born November 22, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Roland and Irene (Anderson) Mathews. Paul served in the Army and was an auto parts salesman in Chicago. In 1998 he moved to Florida . Paul loved football games, Nascar and was a White Sox fan. He enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises and his hobby was collecting cars both real and models. He was a member of the Elks, Moose and San Antonio Catholic Church which he was a usher and pastoral minister. Paul will be remembered for his love of life and his breakfast times with the boys. He will be greatly missed by his beloved companion, Nancy Rachwal; daughter Kathleen Copack; sons, Michael Mallock and Thomas Mathews; step-daughter Charmaine Nilles; grandchildren, Jennifer and Ana Joy Mathews, Craig and Kyle Copack, Megan Reyes and Michael Nilles; brother Donald and Robert Mathews; dear friends, Karen and Christine Rachwal and was “Papa” of Cupcake. The family will receive friends 4:00 - 6:00 pm, Friday, December 22 at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. A mass will be at 9:00 am, Saturday, December 23 at San Antonio Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be to Catholic Charities of De Soto County, 1210 East Oak Street, Arcadia, FL 34266.
