Orville Maurice Dahlbeck, aged 89, passed away May 24, 2021. Orv, as his friends called him, was born on a farm in Lamberton, Minnesota. A natural athlete with an easygoing manner, he was a friend to all he met.
A veteran of the Korean war, Orv served in Nagoya Japan. His three years in Japan sparked a lasting love of Japanese culture and food. In later years, he was able to return to Japan as well as to travel elsewhere in Asia and Europe. Cancun Mexico and Hilton Head were among Orv and Grace's favorite places.
After the war, Orv earned a bachelor of science in Business at the University of Minnesota in 1958 and went to build a career in industrial sales with Consolidated Papers; among his clients were Anderson Windows, 3M and Polar Plastics. He raised a family in Woodland on Lake Minnetonka.
An enthusiast of classical music, German engineering and red wine, he was also an avid tennis player with devious trick shots that kept his opponents on their toes.Orv and Grace were an amazing team - both on the courts and off. Married for 34 years and 2 days, they shared a joy of travel, tennis, good food and a great deal. They resided in Roseville, MN then retired to Beartrap / Wapogasset Lake in Amery Wisconsin and Punta Gorda Florida.
He is survived by his wife Grace Hall Dahlbeck, daughters Karin Mesick and Rochelle Dahlbeck, stepdaughter Jennifer Engleka, stepson Christopher Hall, brother Len Dahlbeck, sister Joyce Austin, and 6 grandchildren: Haley Mesick, Ian Mesick, Eleanor Engleka, Francesco Dahlbeck, Miles Hall & Benjamin Hall.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled when the pandemic eases & the U.S. / Canadian border is re-opened.Memorials are requested to National Public Radio.
