Nancy loved God, her family, and her church above everything, but she also had some talents. She was an artist, she played handbells and the guitar, sang in the choir, enjoyed puzzles, shopping, and going to the beach with anyone who wanted to come along. On January 5th, 2025, we lost Nancy to stage IV lung cancer. She was 72 years old, living in Inverness, FL when she passed.
Nancy was born in Akron, Oh to William and Charlotte Hicks (Cummings). She had 3 brothers and sisters; Bill Hicks, who precedes her in death, Louise (Rick) Yaklin, and Charles Hicks. She married J. Daniel Schilling in 1971 and gained an instant family with his three children: Charles Schilling, Sabrina Stevens, and Theresa Riffle. In the next three years, they would also have two children together, Carie Ware (Kevin) and Casey Knowles (Dan).
With so many children, soon grandchildren and great-grandchildren were to come. In all, Nancy had the privilege of loving nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. This became more and more important to her as the years have gone by. Add nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to that, and you understand what a full life she had.
Services for Nancy will be on January 11, 2025, at First Christian Church of Punta Gorda, at 11:00 am with a traditional potluck to follow.
