Nancy A. Schmidt

Nancy A. Schmidt, 75, of Punta Gorda died September 24, 2010 at Lee Memorial Hospital under Hope Hospice Care. She went to the Lord surrounded by her family. Nancy was born June 7, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Francis and Regina (Healey) Coschina. She attended Our Lady of Grace School in Howard Beach, NY and Schoharie Central School in Schoharie, NY. Nancy was married to Frank Schmidt, Jr. on September 3, 1955 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Schoharie. She and Frank co-owned and operated Schmidt's TV Sales and Service in Middleburgh, NY. She was also the Secretary-Treasurer of the Schoharie County Electronic Cable Company, Inc. Nancy and her family relocated to Punta Gorda in 1977 where she was employed by St. Joseph's Hospital in Port Charlotte until her retirement in 2000. Nancy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her most cherished moments were with her family and friends. She was a volunteer with TideWell Hospice, a Eucharistic Minister for San Antonio Catholic Church, and a member of the Celebrate Life Ladies Cancer Support Group. Nancy will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Frank; son, Frank (Debi) Schmidt III of Saranac Lake, NY; daughters, Sandra (James) Bause of Marietta, GA, Lauren Schmidt of Punta Gorda, and Amy (Roger) Birchfield of Harbor Heights; grandchildren, Jeremy ( Alexa) Birchfield, Mary (Brandan) Bird, Melissa Bause, Patrick (Trisha) Bause, Kimberly Bause, Kyle Spoor, Nicholas Schmidt, and Sydney Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Makayla Bird, Riley Birchfield, and Hayden Bird; sisters, Virginia (Joseph) Bevins (her twin sister) and Therese (Charles) Wright, both of Schoharie, NY, and Jean Riedell of Menands, NY; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved Pekingese dogs, Milo and Zoie. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Elsie Gruenberg and Marie Prince. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services on Sunday, September 26 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church on Monday, September 27 at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice, 1144 Veronica St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
