Milton G. Buffington, 86, formerly of Punta Gorda, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in Summerville, SC. He was the son of Frank and Grace (Sawin) Buffington, born July 18, 1926 in Westfield, NY. Milton was active in the Punta Gorda community. He was a manager at the U-Save supermarket for many years, earning the nickname, "Butch." He was an auxiliary deputy for the sheriff dept., raising and training their tracking dogs. Milton was one of the deputies that captured an FBI most wanted fugitive in 1968. He was very proud of a commendation letter he received from J. Edgar Hoover. He also served as Governor of Moose Lodge 2121, making many friends through the years. He loved being outdoors, and doing brickwork in the years before retiring. He also loved boating, fishing, and BBQ's with his family. Milton will be greatly missed by his children, William (Dail) of Summerville, SC, John (Bonnie) of Ware Shoals, SC, Wendy Luke of Punta Gorda, David (Lisa) of Punta Gorda, James of Jasper, FL, and Robert of Punta Gorda; brother, Paul (Joyce) of Augusta, GA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife of 56 years, Beverly. Services and interment are private.
