Michael "Mike" L. McCalister, 75, of North Port, FL went to be with our Lord on April 17, 2017. He was born to Roy and Jean McCalister on June 30, 1941 in Indianapolis, IN. Mike moved to Port Charlotte in 1975 and worked for many years at Charlotte Excavating and later for Forsberg Construction, Inc. Mike served his community most notably through Jail Ministry, feeding the homeless and a passion for assisting under privilege children. He served in the Salvation Army, where he was designated Special Sergeant. Mike was an outdoor enthusiast including camping and bicycling with the Coastal Cruiser Bicycle Club. After retirement Mike moved to Lake Butler, FL. He enjoyed traveling throughout Florida with his "Little Guy" camper. He would say, "Home is where you park it!" Mike was a member of First United Methodist Church in Worthington Springs, FL. Mike leaves behind his daughters, Carole/Chelle (Joe) Branca and Sandie (Pete) Uhlir; brother, Jim (Irene) McCalister; grandchildren, Chanell Hernandez, Angela Smith, Miranda Burlison, Justin Hernandez, Crissy Bass and Antonio Hernandez, great-grandchildren, Angel and Iziaah Gonzales, Calynne Bass, Abagaile Bass, Linken Bass, Elena Collazo and Shyanne Hernandez and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carole. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3pm, Saturday, April 22, 2017 with a service to celebrate Mike's life to follow at 3pm at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
