Michael Wilson

Sgt. Michael Wilson, 42, of Port Charlotte died Monday, August 5, 2013. He was the son of Michael and Patricia (nee Cavey) Wilson, born November 25, 1970 in Harrisburg, Illinois. Mike grew up in Port Charlotte and graduated from Port Charlotte High School in 1990 . His desire was always to work in law enforcement. Over his 21 year career, he oversaw inmates at the jail, was a resource officer from 2001 to 2003 for his alma mater, Port Charlotte High School, and was selected to lead the county's first Street Crimes Unit, becoming a great asset to the Sheriff's Office and community by working aggressively against drug activity in the county. He was most recently a road patrol supervisor in District 4. Mike was well respected by his law enforcement supervisors and brothers. Mike also leaves a legacy as a great family man who loved spending time with his family, especially fishing on Boca Grande. His infectious smile, energetic personality, and optimistic outlook on life drew people to him. In this way, he touched many lives in a meaningful and positive way. In addition to being in law enforcement, he owned Lawn Enforcement lawn care service, a business he started to earn extra money for his family. Michael will be greatly missed by his wife, Joanne; children, Brandon, Tyler and Emily;brother, Frank Wilson; sisters, Christian Talley and Brittany Roberts; many friends and law enforcement brethren, and by a grateful community. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Janet (nee Burns) Wilson and mother, Patricia. The family will receive friends 4 - 8 pm, Friday August 9, 2013 at the Charlotte Harbor Event Center, 75 Taylor Street, Punta Gorda.
