Melvina V. Green, 86, of Port Charlotte passed away May 9, 2006. She was born June 1, 1919 in Kingston Jamaica to Felix and Celistia (Brewster) Garcia. Melvina attended school in Kingston, Jamaica and started a pre-nursing career at Even Tide Home. She moved to the UK in 1957 where she continued her nursing career and was employed at Lady Well Lodge Hospital and Lewisham General Hospital. In 1966 she emigrated to New York and worked at Manning Hospital until she retired in 1986. Melvina enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and was very involved with her church activities. She had a special love for children and was always there to help in anyway she could. Melvina will be greatly missed by her daughters: Norma (Cyril) Robinson, Sheila (Vincent) Clarke and Violet (Howard) Carter; step-brother David Brewster; grandchildren Chrisencia Rockburne, Derrick and Patrick Clarke, Christine Green, Julian and Johnathan Carter; great-grandchildren Patrice, Rachel and Alicia and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Granville Green. The family will receive friends 10:00 - 11:00 am, Thursday, May 18 at Community Church of God with a celebration of Melvina’s life following at 11:00 am with Rev. Cecil Wiltshire. Burial at Restlawn Memorial Park immediately following the service. To express condolences to the family, please sign the online guest book.
