Melvin E Hobert, 84 of Port Charlotte formerly of Terre Haute, IN passed away on June 26, 2014. He was the son of Horace and Gladys Hobert, born June 15, 1930 in Ellettsville, IN. Melvin joined the US Army at the age of 16 during WWII, as a Tech 5 Operation Japan Chef. He earned is BA in English and MS in Instructional Technology from Indiana State University 1972 & 1974. Melvin met his wife RoseAnn Terrell in 1944 at the age of 14 and married her in 1947. He worked for Milwaukee/SOO line starting as a steam locomotive mechanic then telegrapher, ending in management. Melvin retired in 1988 after 42 years. He was a Life member of Veterans of Underage Military, ARABA Shrine, past president of Terre Haute Transportation Club and 32nd Degree Mason. Melvin was an ordained minister with own congregation for 12 years. Melvin will be greatly missed by his wife, RoseAnn Hobert; brothers, Vernon Hobert of Clinton, IN and Donald Hobert of Indianapolis, IN; daughter-in-laws, Betty Jo Hobert and Lee Ann Hobert; grandchildren, Carlita Rose Hobert, Anthony Wayne Hobert, Ryan Christopher (Kim) Hobert, Kristin Ashley Osman, Lauren Elizabeth Hobert; great-grandchildren, Alexandria Hope Brouwer and Chandler Alexander Brouwer and special family friend, Scott Fletcher and beloved furry friend, Lizzie Lou. He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Tim and Terry. A celebration of life will be held 11am, Friday, July 11, 2014 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ.
