Matthew G. Wharton, 19, of Port Charlotte passed away October 12, 2006. He was born February 28, 1987 in Stratford, NJ, the son of David Wharton, Sr and Audrey (Johnson) Wharton. Matthew moved to Port Charlotte in 1988 from Magnolia, NJ. He was a 2005 graduate of Port Charlotte High School and was very involved in the Naval JROTC program. He worked as an installer for Birch’s Air Conditioning. Matthew loved anything sports related, and enjoyed playing soccer and collecting monkeys. He helped others by being an avid blood donor. His parents have honored his wishes to be an organ donor. Matthew will be greatly missed by his parents, Dave and Audrey Wharton of Port Charlotte; sister, Cheryl Wharton of Port Charlotte; brothers, David Wharton, Jr of Punta Gorda and Danny Wharton of Port Charlotte; grandmother, Dorothy Wharton of Port Charlotte; aunt, Marian Hirst of Little Egg Harbor, NJ; uncles, Kenneth Wharton of Lindin Wold, NJ and Donald Wharton of Somerdale, NJ; and long-time girlfriend, Leighanne Jackomin of Port Charlotte. The family will receive friends 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Friday, October 20 and Noon - 1:00 pm Saturday, October 21 at First Christian Church of Port Charlotte, followed by the celebration of Matthew’s life at 1:00 pm.
