Martha M. Funk

Martha "Beckie" Jane Morris Salsberry Funk, 88, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at her home with family. She was the daughter of Perry E and Sarah Jane (nee Gump) Morris, born July 17, 1925 in Brave, PA. Martha attended Jackson Twp Grade School and Center Twp High School. After graduating from Mason-Frederick Beauty Culture in 1945, she continued as teacher in cosmetology. Martha worked as a waitress then as a housekeeper for Dr. and Mrs. Calvin Rush, First National Bank, Borough Police Station and numerous other families in Waynesburg, PA. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1987 and worked as a caregiver until she retired in 1998. She was a member of First Christian Church, Waynesburg, PA, Friendship United Methodist Church, Punta Gordo, FL and the Sewing Club of Methodist Church that made lap robes for the nursing home residents in the area. Martha will be greatly missed by her children, Vicki L. (Frank Higgins) Funk of Waynesburg, PA, Gary R. (Brenda) Funk of Vermillion, OH, Mark W. (Maryann) Funk of Amherst, OH and Melody L. (Bobby) Deter of Waynesburg, PA and Punta Gordo, FL; sister, Jean Scott of Niles, OH; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A committal service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, August 16, 2013 at Friendship United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to a church or hospice of your choice.
