Mariann Hancock Clinton, 75, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away October 22, 2009 at her summer home in Monroe, Ohio. She was the daughter of John Bowen Hancock and Nell Maureen Johnson Hancock, born December 7, 1933 in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Mariann was a graduate of Indianola High School in Indianola, Mississippi (valedictorian), Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Miami University Oxford and the University of Cincinnati with degrees in vocal performance and music teaching. She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon Honorary Music Fraternity and Phi Mu Sorority. She worked as the Executive Director of Music Teachers National Association and was a voice and piano teacher for many years. Mariann was a soloist with the Charlotte Chorale, Key West Chorale, Cincinnati Summer Opera, Cincinnati Matinee Musicale, and a soloist and choir member for churches in Mississippi, Ohio and Florida. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Punta Gorda and of Middletown, the Burnt Store Isles Boat Club and held several offices with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Mariann was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Harry Everett Clinton, III and will be greatly missed by her daughter Carol Clinton and son John Everett Clinton both of Dublin, Ohio; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter (all in Ohio). A memorial service will be held at 11:00 Thursday, October 29 at the First United Methodist Church of Middletown, Ohio with a reception following at the church. Then her ashes will be scattered on the Great Miami River in a Coast Guard Auxiliary ceremony.
