Margaret Mary Marz

December 22, 1927 — April 8, 2011

Margaret Mary "Maggie" Marz was born December 22, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Gerald and Ethelyn (Abbey) Gainsley. She married Bill Marz in 1952, and they raised their seven children in Dexter, Michigan. Maggie retired from the University of Michigan Residential College. She and Bill moved to Florida in 1987 and all the children followed their lead. She was a member of St. Maximilian Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, and American Legions of Port Charlotte and Dexter. Maggie enjoyed going to the beach, boating, Caribbean music, and "happy hours" with her close friends and neighbors. She loved to paint and draw, sewing, quilting and even went parasailing. Eight was her favorite number to bet at the dog track, and when questioned about what she wanted for dinner, she would reply, "Reservations," or "A hot dog!" Maggie, or "GG" to the great-grands, will be remembered for her love of life and family, and for her ready smile. Maggie passed away Friday, April, 8, 2011 in Port Charlotte, Florida at the age of 83. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Sheila Marz (Bruce Murphy), Lisa (Rob) Emil, Mary Marz-Carson (Chris), and Patricia (Jim) Cunningham, all of Port Charlotte; sons, Edward "Chuck" Marz of Port Charlotte, William P Marz of Arcadia and Michael Marz of Port Charlotte; 4 legged faithful companions, Murphy, Starter and Paco; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Bates of Dexter, MI and Sharon Darrow of Chattanooga, TN, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C "Bill" Marz in 2004 and brothers, Robert, Rolland, James, and Gerald Paul "Butch." A memorial service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Charlotte Harbor Trinity United Methodist Church, 23084 Seneca Avenue, Charlotte Harbor with Pastor Marion Sortore officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 or Native American Indian Children's Foundation.
