Madeline Popejoy, 58, of Punta Gorda and Venice, FL passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010. She was the daughter of Nathan and Lillian (Sklaroff) Seltzer, born July 17, 1951 in Philadelphia, PA. Madeline received her degree in education from Southern Connecticut State College. She taught in Philadelphia, New Haven, CT, and Venice. She enjoyed being involved in her community and was a long time member and officer of the Charlotte County Democratic Women's Club, the DWCF, Inc., and the League of Women Voters. She loved the arts, reading, and travel, spending many years boating with her husband, Bob. Madeline also cherished the "dance" she had with entertainer Liberace many years before her legs began to weaken. Her love of life, bright smile, laughter and determination were an inspiration to those around her. Madeline will be greatly missed by her husband, Robert Popejoy of Punta Gorda; children, Alyson (Shannon) Treadway, Megan (Alan) Nisberg, Gabriel (Shana) Wasserman and Justin Wasserman (fianc Olga Ulitsky) all of Venice; mother, Lillian Seltzer; grandchildren, Spencer Treadway, Aiden, Esther Rose Nisberg and Rafael Wasserman; brothers, Dr. Sam (Susan) Seltzer of Florence, SC and Steve (Jenny) Seltzer of Galloway, NJ; former husband, Dr. Steven J. Wasserman 3 nieces and 1 nephew. She was preceded in death by her father, Nathan and daughter, Esther Alana Wasserman. The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 am Monday, March 8, 2010 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm at the Jewish Center of Venice.
