Lorraine Marie S. Mazza, 97, of Port Charlotte Florida passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021. She was born September 6, 1923, daughter of May (nee Hendrickson) and Eiler Schlytter, in Brooklyn, New York. Lorraine attended James Madison High School where she met her husband of 69 years Ralph Mazza. She lived in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn, NY. She was baptised, confirmed, married as well as her children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were baptised at St. James Lutheran Church. In 1968 she reluctantly moved to Connecticut and became the Program Director of Elderly Care at Miller Masonic Retirement Home, Wallingford, CT. In 1983 Lorraine & Ralph retired to Port Charlotte, Florida, and lived in the same home until she passed away.
Lorraine was an active member and past President of the Port Charlotte Garden Club for 35 years. She attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active with youth vacation bible school and cradle roll. At St. James, she was a Sunday School Teacher, Director of Luther League, and Brownie Leader among many other volunteer activities.
Lorraine will be greatly missed by her daughters Dale Hahn, Lee Ann (Robert) Ferriola and sons Ralph (Jacquelyne) Mazza, James (Patricia) Mazza, her sister-in-law Gertrude Hendry, her 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews and all those she filled the void who lost their mothers.
A memorial service will be held in the afternoon on Saturday, May 22nd, 2021 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, FL.
